it will stretch a bit, chains do that. but it will stop after a few rides. chain tools are a cheap tool, in fact i bought a patch kit and it came with one. google for some how-to vids i wont be able to explain it well at all. and if your still having trouble go to your lbs they should be able to do it easily in a few mins.

With a half link chain you should be able to get a decent chain tension without the tensioner, even with vert. dropouts. no?
